Raul Rincon

The stereotyping of urban DJ culture has long since become just a habit. Young city people in modern trendy clothes rush highly motivated from one import shop to another, in order to buy the rarest and most sought after vinyls, a fraction of a second earlier than their competitors. They increase in numbers daily. No license, no degree, final exam or a deficient musicality could possibly call a halt on the uncontrollable glut of DJs. In the meantime, the requirements are more than merely carrying the smart record bag of an in-underground label or installing two chromium Japanese turntables in the basement, in order to do justice to the growing demands of the record-playing trade. Finally the exhaustive provision of high calibre DJ stars from the promotion departments of solicitous tobacco and beverage companies has contributed to the high level at which the clubbing and disco public has been spoilt in the past years. Thankfully we have an alternative: Raul Rincon.

Raul Rincon who, already at the tender age of 14, had saved up for two of the legendary 1210 Technics series, can look back on a career of 14 years, which took him to numerous clubs.

Meanwhile, as a DJ, he has become one of the big ones in the House scene. Continueous bookings of over the years confirm impressively his varied sets, which have been created with loving care and turn his performances every time into a roller coaster ride for the party people. This has also led to regular gigs at Viva´s (Germany´s music tv channel) “Ritmo de Bacardi” series.

Nevertheless Raul is not just satisfied with playing other people´s records. Using project names such as “JERK WORK”, “DROP DISHES” and “SNACK”, 35 productions have been created and over 80 remixes, including different commissioned work, for example, for the Euro Charts storm entry N-TRANCE, LUTRICIA MC NEIL, KYM MAZELLE, SAMANTHA FOX, the Stuttgart HipHop pioneers “DIE FANTASTISCHEN VIER”, to name but just a few, and one has even heard and is amazed that the top-ten rocker FURY IN THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE is also included. If the general studio know-how of commercial “producer DJs” is limited to the flawless starting of the system software, then Raul is best equipped with the knowledge acquired by visiting the famous “School of Audio Engineering”. However, without a musical background nothing works: Since the age of 8 he has had a classical piano training and in between he learned to play the flute for 7 years and in the Rinconish curriculum vitae, his commitment as a church organist appears without warning. There is hardly a DJ however, who does his job in such a consistent and passionate manner: In contrast to the countless after-work and hobby DJs, Raul has made his passion for vinyls to his profession: As one of the most competent DJ promoters, he supplied 12-inches from his “vinyl sloppy pool” for 4 years to over 1000 DJs, using the pseudonym “DJ Schlumpf” (Engl. Smurf). In addition to this, he put a lot of time and energy into his work as a label assistant for the ambitious “Counting” label.

To all this, he is responsible for 3 compilations for the successful Mash club and restaurant in Stuttgart, Germany. The “Mash Chapter Series” are double CD albums, each seperated into CD1 “Weekdays” and CD2 “Weekend”. He also compiled the “Whitehouse” CD for the “White Series” of the popular German magazine “Max”.

Since 2001 he has been producing and remixing exclusively under the name RAUL RINCON and managing his own label “TENOR RECORDINGS”. Always very popular are the so-called “TenorNights”, that not only have him make music, but also show Tenor label performances. Up to day, Raul Rincon’s label has 14 releases, that also includes works of collegue DJ’s such as Laurent Wolf, Gabi Newman, Christian Hornbostel, Francesco Diaz, Jochen Pash etc.

“… . the tenor network is constantly being extended”, so Raul Rincon in his latest interview.

The latest release of tenor rec. (the 14th one) is a club transformation of a well known football anthem of Rauls home team – it’s named “Raul Rincon pres. The Hardliner-Champions League”.
